How does a supervisor qualify for this designation?

There are four primary paths to take to fulfil the coursework, supervision, and mentoring requirements of the Hawai'i-Approved MFT Supervision Designation (SD):



Complete the HI-AMFT Supervisor Designation program that includes:

  1. 12 hours of supervision mentorship;
  2. 20-hour HIAMFT-approved didactic training (modeled after the AAMFT-Approved Supervisor training;
  3. 30 hours of supervision experience;
  4. Minimum six months.



Through the Chaminade University's DMFT program where graduates:

Receive the designation through a four-semester supervision training program embedded in the degree program.



AAMFT Supervisors will be eligible for this designation after completing limited requirements, which include:

Pass a Hawai'i-specific assessment on HRS451J, the HIAMFT Code of Ethics, and other Hawai'i-specific ethical and legal scenarios.



Experienced Supervisors:

Meet some or all program requirements with documentation of their equivalent experience.


HI-AMFT Supervisor Designation Pathway

Complete HI-AMFT SD Fundamentals of Supervision course.

Meet with your Supervisor Mentor for 12 hours.

Provide 30 hours of supervision under mentorship.

Complete and submit HI-AMFT SD application materials and fees.
